Night Hiking Photography

About three weeks ago I went for a little hike through the hills of Bonelli Park in my hometown of San Dimas. As I I was hiking along the backside of the hills, which leads one right above the 10 freeway, I noticed a particular spot that I thought would be brilliant for photography. My hope this evening was to capture that image that I had created in my mind--green hills covered in wildflowers with the streaming head-lights and tail-lights of cars passing on the freeway. Unfortunately, I arrived too late this evening to get the ideal shot for which I was hoping, but the few shots that I got will have to suffice until I find the time to make it to the area before sunset. Needless to say, it is a great location for simple hiking, and very beautiful this time of year, especially on the front-side of the hills where one may see puddingstone lake, Mt Baldy (and the other local mountains), downtown Los Angeles, distant peaks, such as Idyllwild, Big Bear, and Lake Arrowhead, and, of course, the surrounding communities. I had ought to get a group together to enjoy a little saunter--it is an easy hike and a great place for a picnic. Anyone game? :)

wow--you make it sound so beautiful! I had no idea there was a little retreat hidden in there. I'd love to explore it sometime.

Hey, have you ever thought about holding a little photography class? If you do, I want to sign up!

Okay, so with the pictures and all that talk about downtown LA, Big Bear, etc., you're making me really miss good old CA right now! I'm actually interested in that hike. I went on a hike a few weeks ago and all there was to look at were a bunch of cacti!

Sorry, I have a hard enough time not tripping over every little pebble when I can see them during a day hike. The chances of me falling and breaking my ankle and being left for dead only increase when the sun goes down.

I would love to hike! We don't really have that here in the frozen north. I should say the thawing north! Wahoo!
Andrea went on a hike? When has that happened?
Can't wait to see more pics.
Brett, I think you should have a blog just with photos. Think about it.

In response to the comments submitted:
Ms. Liz: That is awesome that you are in. . . I'll keep you posted.

Heather: Of course we need to explore it sometime--we need to break-in that picnic gear you so graciously gave to me!

Liz W.: I will teach you what little I know about photography anytime you want. I have to cameras and love to take people out to do photography--hands on is the only way that I can teach, so let me know when is good for you (is that good enough to get a pompom cheer?).

Andrea: I'm sorry to make you nostalgic for Southern California. We miss you here--you should come back. . . at least for a visit! :)

Courtney: Haha!!! I had to laugh when I read your comment, now that the misery is so many years passed. What is funny is that I was just talking about that hike this past weekend with Alison--I couldn't believe that she would be willing to go on a night-hike after that experience. . . of course, I soon learned she was not on that hiking excursion (no doubt why she is still willing to go). I had forgotten who all went on that trip, but the trip itself I will never forget. I suppose that I may end up burning in hell for inflicting asthma and scratches on you, but I will be happy in the thought that no matter what, you will never forget me after that experience! :)

Rachel: I was out hiking on my own at night when I took the photographs--thus the night hike. I am inviting others to go hiking there in the daylight (you can't see much of the beauty that the location has to offer this time of year in the dark). So join us!!!

Amanda: You must have sneaked your comment in while I was typing my response. You were always good about going hiking with me and I will always appreciate you for it!
As for a blog with just photos. . . hmmm. . . I will have to think about that one. . .
